General Description: Mountain Lake Campground is near the banks of Summersville Lake off of US 19 south of Summersville, West Virginia. Mountain Lake offers most of the amenities for any type of camper or RV including electric (30 amp) and water hookups. The campground is spread out over 4 large loops with over 200 campsites. Amenities include many themed weekends over the season, bathroom/showers on each loop, laundry facilities at each bathroom, swimming pool, and many spacious playgrounds at the center of each loop.
1) There are very few pull-through sites at Mountain Lake, however, our back-in site was easy to get into with plenty of room in front of the site to make the turn. There are also very few sites with sewer hookups and the dump station for each loop can get backed up with RVs emptying their campers after a busy weekend. You have a choice of wooded sites around the periphery of each loop or open sites with few trees in the center. We had an open site with very little shade.
2) The restrooms and laundry facilities were kept reasonably clean every day, but were a bit dated. They had problem keeping any soap in their dispensers, especially over Labor Day weekend.
3) We found the staff in the office to be a bit rude as they seem to have a fixation with their wrist tags. According to them we were suppose to wear our wrist band all week, even though we were not going to take advantage of their swimming pool.
4) We stayed their over Labor Day weekend which meant during the week the campground was nearly deserted, but by the weekend it was overrun with families and kids. It was a nice way to spend this last weekend of the summer.
