General Description: Tar Camp is a medium sized campground near Pool 5 on the Arkansas River, about halfway between Pine Bluff and Little Rock, Arkansas. The campground has just over 50 campsites, many with water and electric hookups. Many of these sites back up to the Arkansas River, giving a wonderful view out the back of your RV. Other amenities include bathroom/shower facilities, dump station, boat ramp, and playground equipment.
1) While not large, the campground stretches out along the bank of the Arkansas River, which means many of the sites back up to a view of the river. You can watch the barges going up and down the river multiple times each day. The landing pads are all paved and reasonably level and each site has a covered picnic table, fire ring, and cooking grill. The covers over the picnic tables are especially nice during rainy days. In my opinion, the sites are angled backwards as we had to get turned around in order to back into the site. Of course, this meant we did not have to turn around when we left.
2) The bathroom facilities are kept reasonably clean and centrally located. Of course, since the campsites are strung out along the river, this can mean a bit of a hike for some of the far flung sites.
