Roosevelt State Park

Location: Morton, Mississippi

Webpage: Mississippi State Park

General Description: Roosevelt State Park is conveniently located between Meridian and Jackson, Mississippi just a mile north of I-20.  There are an abundance of outdoor activities available within the state park including camping, swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, and disc golf.  The modern RV campgrounds has 109 campsites including 82 with full hookups.  The premier campsites are along the lake, but many of the sites have nice views of the lake without being directly on the lakeshore.  There are modern bathroom/shower facilities on each loop of two loops, as well as, playground equipment.

Impressions:

1) Roosevelt State Park is a very nice campground with paved sites and full hookups.  We had a site with a nice view of the lake since the swimming beach was directly in front of us.  Especially since it is just a few miles off the interstate and yet secluded in the pine/hardwood forests of central Mississippi, it was a great place to spend the week.

2) The bathroom/shower facility was modern and kept reasonably clean all week.  Since we arrived in October, the entrance booth was not manned.  However, a call made to the number provided at the booth got us checked in since we had a reservation.  A quick trip later to the lodge after we got set up completed the task providing us with the hangtag for the truck.

3) There is a well designed disc golf course in the park with a lot of challenging fairways.  However, the course is in need of maintenance as most of the signs and many of the tee boxes are gone.  I was able to find all the cages.
