General Description: Lavonia Park is located on Lake Lavon, northeast of Dallas, and is convenient for shopping and other attractions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Lavonia Park is located on the top of a hill overlooking the southern end of Lake Lavon. The campground offers 38 sites with full hookups for RVs and 15 sites with water hookups for small trailers and tents. Amenities include access to the lake with two boat ramps, a picnic area and plenty of room to spread out and relax. Heated bathrooms have hot showers for campers.
1) Lavonia Park is an old COE campground that badly needs an upgrade. Most of the RV sites are paved, however, none of them are very level. We stayed in two sites over the period of a month and had to brace up the RV in both sites. While being on top of a hill may be nice in the summer, there is very little shade and the winds off the lake in the winter can be brutal.
2) The volunteers working the entrance gate were very helpful in extending out stay beyond the two week limitation. The bathrooms are old and in need of repair. Without a door on the single toilet in the men’s bathroom, privacy was an issue. They are heated, which was nice on cold mornings, however, the heat is either on or off, so could become uncomfortable on warm days.
