General Description: Lake of the Woods Campground is located on the shore of Rainy River that flows into the Lake of the Woods in the heart of Walleye country in extreme northern Minnesota. While it is located a few miles outside of the town of Baudette, it forms its own little community on the river. It is a large campground with many seasonal campers, however, there are more than 20 sites for transients as well. Most of the transient sites are pull-through with grass and gravel pads, full hookups, and 50 amp service. The campground also offers free WiFi and cable on most sites for an extra fee. There is also excellent phone reception within the campground. Other amenities include a swimming pool, playground, country store, bathroom/showers, game room, and laundry facilities.
1) We were very impressed with Lake of the Woods Campground. We had expected lousy TV and phone receptions being so far from any major metropolitan areas, however, the phone reception was excellent and cable at each site gave us better TV reception we could get over the airwaves. It is a large campground with about 75% taken up with seasonal campers. However, this still left around two dozen sties for transients.
2) We happened to be staying there over the weekend of their “Campers Appreciation” which meant a nice free dinner of pulled pork with all the fixings.
3) The bathrooms were modern and kept clean even with the large influx of campers over the weekend. The owners were extremely friendly, stopping by our campsite multiple times to chat. The owner also came out and charged the two batteries on our truck when the alternator died. We would certainly camp here again in the future.
