General Description: Lake Claiborne State Park offers all the outdoor activities you would expect in a state park. Lake Claiborne, at 6400 acres, hosts all the water activities including boating, fishing, swimming, and birding. In addition to wildlife and miles of nature trails, it also boasts the #1 and #2 ranked disc golf courses. For overnight accommodations there are two bedroom cabins and an RV campground nestled in the pine forests of northern Louisiana. There are 20 premium and 67 improved RV campsites with electric and water hookups and a primitive camping area for 20 campers. Amenities include modern bathroom/shower facilities with laundry, playground areas, and swimming at sandy beaches on the lakeshore.
1) Lake Claiborne State Park is a beautiful campground along the shore of the lake. The premium campsites cost $5 more per night then the improved and the only difference is proximity to the lake. We stayed in an improved campsite right at the swimming beach and had a good view of the lake without having to be right on it. Our only complaint was the tight corners along the road causing our fifth wheel unit to veer off the road at times. We were certainly not the only ones to do it. In addition, the dump station required you to circle around to enter, which was itself a very tight turn.
2) The bathroom/shower facilities were very modern and nice construction making it look like a two story home. They were kept very clean all week.
3) There are two 18 hole disc golf courses on the park and it is easy to understand why they are ranted the top two courses in the state. The courses are very well laid out, although I would recommend taking the map of the course with you as the crossing hiking and biking trails made it difficult to located some of the fairways. Both courses are challenging with lots of trees and steep slopes.
