South Sandusky Campground – COE

General Description: South Sandusky Campground is one of four COE campgrounds on Rend Lake in south central Illinois.  Rend Lake is 18,900 acres surrounded by federal land managed primarily for wildlife habitat and recreation. South Sandusky Campground alone offers 70 reservable campsites with water and electric hookups.  Amenities within the campground include restroom/showers, dump station, playground, and boat ramp.

Impressions:

1) Most of the campsites are back-in sites but there are a few pull-through sites that can be reserved.  All sites are very spacious with fire rings, picnic tables, and lantern hooks.  The pads are asphalt and fairly level.

2) The bathrooms are clean and modern and conveniently located for all campsites since the campgrounds is laid out in four small loops with the bathroom at the beginning of each loop.

3) There are a number of hiking trails around Rend Lake, varying in length from 1/2 mile to a couple of miles.
