Location: Rockford, Illinois
Webpage: Illinois State Park
General Description: Located in the suburbs of Rockford, Illinois, Rock Cut State Park has the advantage of proximity to all the amenities of a large city and the seclusion of a large wooded area. The state park encompasses 3,092 acres with two lakes, hiking trails, horseback riding trails, jogging trails, and a dog training area. The campground has 270 campsites with electric hookups. While all of the sites are back-in there are a select few with concrete pads and patios. Be warned that there are not water hookups at each site, however, water is available to fill your fresh water tanks at multiple locations. Amenities include bathroom/showers on each camping loop, playgrounds, and well lit paved roads.
1) This is a beautiful state park and with a major grocery store, Meyers, 5 miles away the location could not be more convenient. All sites are spacious with picnic tables and fire rings and the grounds are kept mowed and open. Even with the suburbs of Rockford just outside the park and Interstate 90/39 that cuts through part of the park, it is quiet and secluded. The only drawback was the lack of water hookups at each site. However, there are water spigots at multiple locations conveniently located throughout the campgrounds.
2) The bathroom/showers are modern and kept clean and located in the center of each loop.
3) The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. When we arrived we were warned that the site we had reserved was likely to small for our fifth-wheel. They graciously found us another site that was much better. It had a concrete pad and patio that was much better than the grassy site we had reserved.
