General Description: Joe Wheeler State Park is located on the shores of Wheeler Lake on the Tennessee River. The State Park features a waterfront lodge, restaurant, golf course, marina, campgrounds, cottages, and 2,550 acres of land and water. The campgrounds feature primitive campsites and 110 RV campsites with full hookups. Additional features include basketball and tennis courts, soccer field, and disc golf course in the picnic area of the park.
1) For a state park the campsites are relatively narrow, but nearly all of them have full hookups and most are pull through sites. While there is at least a section of each pad that is level, you need to be careful positioning the RV since many of the sites are on a slope. The sewer hookups are located at the extreme back of the level area of the site making hookup a challenge if your sewer is at the middle of the RV.
2) The bathrooms are modern, heated, and kept clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
3) There are a couple of nice hiking trails in the state park along the shores of Wheeler Lake.
4) There is a nice disc golf course in the park, if you like narrow fairways with lots of trees.
