General Description: Located in the Wisconsin Northwoods, Chain O’ Lakes Campground is a good place to enjoy the hemlock forests of northern Wisconsin. While the campground is 4 miles outside of Eagle River, with all the amenities of a small tourist town, it is another 5 miles into the forests next to Nicolet National Forest. Chain O’ Lakes Campground offers spacious, wooded sites to both transient and seasonal campers with electric and water hookups at each RV site. Amenities include a swimming pool, multiple playground areas, propane, a small country store, and bathrooms/shower facilities.
1) This is an old KOA campground that has been converted to mostly seasonal campsites. The campsites are scattered all over the campground with little forethought to roads or access. Campsites for the transient visitor are also scattered in between the seasonal sites. While some of the transient sites are pull-through you still have to be careful of all the very tight turns and trees blocking the entrance onto the site. While our site was not as spacious as most state park campgrounds or federal campgrounds, it was still adequate with room for a picnic table and fire ring.
2) The bathroom/showers are modern and kept clean, although they did get messed up over the weekend when they had their 4th of July cookout on Saturday. The staff were very friendly and thankfully had us pull all the way around the campground to avoid the trees entering our site that would have made the direct route impossible.
