General Description: Castle Rock Lakefront Campground is located on the shores of Lake Huron in St Ignace, just a short ferry from Mackinac Island. The campground offers various size campsites for large RVs to tents. The sites also offer a variety of services from water, electric to sewer and a few of the sites are pull-through. Other amenities include bathroom/shower facility, laundry building, small campstore, propane, and beach access to Lake Huron.
1) The campsites are relatively small and packed in, but the abundance of trees provide privacy and a sense of seclusion. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. The real advantage to the location is that both Star and Sheplers Ferry to Mackinac Island provide shuttle service to their respective docks in St. Ignace from the campground. They will even drop you off at your site following a long day on the island.
2) The bathrooms are in need of upgrading, however, they kept them relatively clean. The showers are separate from the bathrooms and are very difficult for them to keep clean, although they work hard at. They pick up trash left at the entrance to your site multiple times throughout the day, which was great.
3) The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, assisting us with making reservations for our day on Mackinac Island. Since we were close to the office the free WiFi service was excellent, although it and phone service down by Lake Huron were a problem.
