General Description: Tailwater Campground is Corps of Engineers campground located just below the dam of Barren River Lake, near Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is a small campground with only 48 sites on the banks of the Barren River. All except one of the RV sites are back-in sites with water and electric hookups. Amenities include a playground, restroom/shower facility, and a hiking trail.
1) The campgrounds are very well maintained and all have a nice view of the Barren River flowing by. While the looming dam blocks all views of the lake, the flowing river more than makes up for it.
2) The staff were very friendly and helpful assisting us with locating a near-by laundromat. Be warned that they take an extended lunch period to take care of their dogs at their house, so the check-in station is closed from 12-3 every day.
3) The bathrooms were modern and kept clean and tidy.
4) The hiking trail is a one-mile loop through the woods away from the river. Unfortunately, none of the trail is along the river itself, but still it is a nice level walk through the Kentucky woods.
