Service Campground Corps of Engineers

Location: Service, Alabama

Webpage: COE Park

General Description: Located along the high banks of Coffeeville Lake on the Tombigbee River, Service Campgrounds provides access to the river and forests in rural Alabama.  The campgrounds are strung out along the bank of the river, just north of the Coffeeville Dam, nestled in a mixed pine/oak forest.  The campgrounds consists of 32 sites for RV and tents, each with 50 amp electrical service and water, along with picnic table and firepit.  Within the campgrounds are a modern bathroom and laundry facilities.

1) As there are only 30 RV sites in the campgrounds, Service is a small campground.  The sites along the river are all pull-through sites with a lot of room between sites.  Each of these sites have an unobstructed view of the river where you can watch the barge traffic on the river.  In early February, this amounted to 4-6 barges per day and into the evening hours.

2) The volunteers acting as camp hosts were very friendly and helpful, both in welcoming us to the campgrounds, as well as, directions to stores and propane.  The bathroom facilities were very modern and clean.  We had some cold nights in February and the heat in the bathroom was much appreciated.
