Location: Dauphin Island, Alabama
Webpage: Private Museum
General Description: As part of the Duaphin Island Sea Lab, The Estuarium is a educational public aquarium the highlights the four key habitats of coastal Alabama: the Mobile Tensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, the Barrier Islands and the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The Estuarium consists of 10,000 square foot exhibit hall with 31 aquariums and more than 100 species on display. There is also a 7,000 gallon sting ray touch pool and the Living Marsh Boardwalk.
1) For anyone visiting Mobile or Dauphin Island this is must see attraction!! There are numerous exhibits providing interesting in formation about each of the four habitats that make up Mobile Bay. Along with the exhibits are multiple aquariums from small to large highlighting marine life from the river delta to the Gulf of Mexico.
2) Be sure not to miss the sting ray touch pool where you are able to reach in and feel the back of the sting rays as they swim past. This is especially nice during their feeding times as the sting rays race around the edge of the pool offering multiple opportunities to touch them.
3) The Living Marsh Boardwalk was under construction when we were there, but even when completed it is only a short walk out to a pier looking into Mobile Bay. There is very little actual marsh at this location, so I am not sure it will ever amount to much in the way of a natural habitat.
