General Description: Michigan Oaks Camping Resort is located 4 miles off I-75 in extreme northern Michigan, which means it is within 30 miles of Mackinac City. The Resort is a medium sized campground offering sandy, woody sites. While all the sites are back-in, they range from electric/water sites (30 amp) to tent only sites. Other amenities include a fancy playground area, miniature golf, swimming pool, basketball court, pool side cafe, small country store, laundry facilities, bathrooms/showers, and propane.
1) This is an older campground which means the sites are small for 30 foot or better RVs, but it also means there are large trees with plenty of shade. The campsites are fairly heavily used so there was little ground cover with sand predominating everywhere. While the sites were short, they were spacious from side-to-side with plenty of room for a picnic table and fire rings at each site.
2) The bathrooms were also old, but cleaned every day. The office staff were very kind giving us a choice of sites when we checked in and information about the historical sites in the area.
3) The only complaint I had was with the electrical system. Normally we don’t have a problem dealing with 30 amp service, however, we were sharing a pedestal with another RV. When we both ran our a/c it caused the pedestal to heat up. Although it never burned out while we were there we were asked not to run our water heater with the a/c. A strange request, but since the weather was cool enough for most of the week we did not need to run the a/c very much.
