General Description: Bumpus Mills Campground is located on the shores of Lake Barkley on the Cumberland River. It is a small campground, offering only 15 campsites and a single bathroom/shower facility. Activities include hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming in Lake Barkley.
1) As already noted, Bumpus Mills Campground is a very small campground, however its proximity to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area and Fort Donelson National Battlefield makes it worth the visit. Partly due to its size, the campgrounds is in need of some tender loving care. The sites are all gravel with plenty of shade, but they are all beginning to fall apart. The paved road that circles the campground is very narrow and twisty making it a challenge to get the RV around the circle.
2) As far as we could tell, there was no staff manning the entrance booth as it always seemed to be closed. Thankfully, we knew the site number we had reserved and it was open, so we were able to park with no problem. A staff member did drive by the following day to give us a hang tag, but that was the only time we saw them.
3) There is a nice view of Lake Barkley from any of the campsites, which was a blessing as there was little else to praise about the campsites. All of the campers we talked with all week were from the local area and they took pride in “their” campground.
4) The bathrooms were kept clean and were modern.
