General Description: The Albert E. Sleeper State Park is a 723 acre park at the tip of the thumb of Michigan along the shore of Lake Huron. The habitat of the park consists of forest, wetlands, sandy beach and dunes. While the main attraction of the park is the sandy beach and campground, there are also opportunities for hiking, biking, and picnicking.
1) Being located at the very tip of the thumb of Michigan, Sleeper State Park is an excellent location to view Lake Huron to the north and east. Most of the visitors to the park are either camping or swimming in Lake Huron. Our primary purpose was to find a nice place for a picnic lunch. Unfortunately, the sand dunes blocked all view of the Lake from the picnic tables, it was still a nice shady location near the Lake. Since there was no obvious place to obtain a brochure for the park, we were not aware of the hiking opportunities.
