Location: Nichols, New York
General Description: Known primarily as a horse racetrack, Tioga Downs began as a quarter-horse racetrack in 1974, but has been converted to harness racing in 2006. With races primarily on Sundays from May-September, Tioga Downs also offers other forms of entertainment. Along with a summer schedule of entertainment throughout the summer, Tioga Downs also offers a casino and restaurants every day of the week. The casino offers a wide assortment of slot machines.
1) This was our first casino that is located at a racetrack that we have visited on our travels, so our first impression was the expanse of area taken up by the racetrack. It made the casino look a lot larger than it actually was, since most of the venue is dedicated to the racetrack.
2) The gaming floor was modest in size compared to other casinos we have been to, however, it had a wide variety of slot machines to choose from. Since we were there during the day in the middle of the week, there were not that very many visitors. It was senior day while we were there so we got a good price on a buffet lunch, although we had to wait in line to get a table and the food, frankly, was not that good.
3) The players club was worth the effort to join, since they gave you $10 in free play for the first $10 you bet on the slot machines.
