Tompkins Campground

Location: Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania

Webpage: COE Campground

General Description: Tompkins Campground is on the north side of Cowanesque Lake in northern-central Pennsylvania, less than a mile from the New York state line.  With wide spacious sites either along the lake or within a lush forested environment, Tomkins Campground is a beautiful campground.  Most of the sites are back-in sites with limited size for RVs (around 40 feet).  All sites have electric (30 amp) and water hookups with conveniently placed restrooms/showers.  Amenities include a quiet atmosphere, laundry facilities, lake access, and nice hiking trails.

1) Especially for the price (half price with a Seniors Pass), this is one of our favorite campgrounds we have stayed in within the Northeast.  The only amenity we missed was a sewer hookup, but staying only a week we could wait to dump at their dump station when we left.

2) All of the sites are angled making easy back-in access, although you had to watch the trees on either side and the ditch along the road.  The sites are all asphalt and fairly level.  They are a bit short for our 35 foot 5th-wheel, but by backing it up so the back in overhung they pavement, we could manage to “parallel park” our big truck in front of the site with all wheels barely on the pavement.

3) The bathrooms were all modern, clean, and heated and within easy walking distance of all sites.

4) The volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable about hiking trails and points of interests in the area.  They provided us with a nice trails map for both Cowanesque and Tioga-Hammond Lake areas.
