Location: Sylvan Beach, New York
Webpage: RV Park
General Description: Nestled along the shore of Fish Creek as it enters Oneida Lake, The Landing Campground is located conveniently between Utica and Syracuse. There are a complete range of amenities, including full-hookups, swim beach on Fish Creek, free WiFi and cable.
1) As with most well established campgrounds in New York, The Landing Campground is largely filled with seasonal campers, and it is not a very big campground in the first place. The only transient sites are just outside the office which limits it to about 10 sites. Although they are designed to be back-in sites, they have an avenue into the back of the sites that make them pull-through, especially if there are only a couple of RVs already parked.
2) The website advertises laundry facilities and cable TV, however, the laundry facility is a single washing machine stuck outside the bathroom that I don’t believe works. We took our laundry to a laundromat in town. When we were there they were having an issue with the cable company, so there was no cable and had not been for at least 6 months. The WiFi was free, but service was very limited even with being virtually next to the office.
3) The bathroom facilities were old and need to be updated, although they kept them clean.
4) The best feature of the campground was the staff. The staff is a single woman running the office, which meant she did not get a day off. Providing you could run her down, she was very friendly and helpful. She even offered to pick us up from the Ford dealership when we had to take our truck to check a problem with it on the day we were trying to leave.
