General Description: Located along the shore of Seneca Lake near Watkins Glen, Lakewood Vinyards is a prime example of the vinyards in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Although they have been producing grapes since 1951, it wasn’t until 1998 that the Stamp family began producing their own wines. Today they produce a wide variety of wines and the vinyards have been maintained and expanded to over 80 acres of three families of grapes. Over the years they have won numerous awards for the wines they produce, as well as, the farming practices.
1) We do not visit a lot of vinyards, so our impression is based on limited experience. However, I found the vinyards to be an interesting place to wander around in and the tasting facilities to be outstanding. They are currently making further improvements in the tasting facilities adding space for meetings and other functions. I was impressed with the range of activities that they will be able to host in the future.
2) We visited Lakewood Vinyards on two consecutive days in mid-June to attend the Old Time Fiddlers Gathering that they were hosting on the property. The event was under a tent to the side of the tasting facilities and the backdrop of the vinyards overlooking Seneca Lake with the other hillside in the background made for an impressive venue for the event. We thoroughly enjoyed the many type of fiddlers they had over the two day event.
