General Description: Aptly named for the Andy Griffin Show, which was located at a fictitious town of Mayberry, North Carolina, where the “big city” was Mt. Airy, the Mayberry Campground celebrates the legacy of this connection to the city. Conveniently located less than a mile from Interstate 74 and a couple of miles outside of Mt. Airy, the campground provides all the amenities RV campers expect. All of the sites are full hookups sites, with about half being pull through sites. The campground is medium-size with around 100 campsites, a small country store, restrooms, and nice views of the nearby Blue Ridge mountains.
1) Mayberry Campground is a very nice and beautifully maintained campground. The grounds are extremely well maintained and hookups conveniently located. While some of the sites are close together, especially the back-in sites, there are some nice pull through sites with lots of room. In fact, the pull-through site we had was on a “corner” so we had no neighbors with a large area behind the RV going up the hill to other sites. While it is convenient to be less than a mile from the Interstate, the road noise from the passing trucks and cars is a negative to me.
2) The restroom/shower facilities were at the office, but were kept clean and nice at all times. While not the most modern of facilities, they were well maintained.
3) In mid-April the campground was less than half full, although it did fill up to about 75% capacity over the weekend. We would stay here again if we are even in the area in the future.
