General Description: Isaac Creek Campground is located north of Monroeville, Alabama along the Alabama River at the locks leading into Claiborne Lake. The campground is open all year with 47 sites with electric and water hookups. Most sites are back-in, but there are a few pull-through sites. About a third of the sites are along the banks of the Alabama River with the remainder tucked into the hardwood forest along Isaac Creek. There are two bathroom facilities with showers and laundry.
1) In late February, the sites along the river are heavily used, but the sites within the hardwood forest are mostly empty. All of the sites have concrete pads which make for easy leveling of our RV. Although there are no sewer hookups, the dump station is conveniently located at the entrance to empty the tanks as we left the campground.
2) The bathroom facilities are clean, heated, and very modern. The solid concrete block design was especially appreciated as we waited out a tornado warning one evening while we were there.
3) While the tornado passed to our north, there was sufficient rain to the north to cause the Alabama River to moderately flood. While it turned out that the flooding only affected a few wooded sites away from the river, with water across the road, we did have to move from one of the wooded sites to a site along the river as they were going to shut off the power just in case. We greatly appreciated the efforts of the volunteer staff to keep us notified of the potential dangers and see us safely to a site that would be above the flood.
