General Description: Located north of Charlotesville, near the small town of Stanardsville, Virginia, Heavenly Acres Campground is nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains with easy and close access to the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. The Campground is a medium sized RV Park with wooded and generous sites for RVs and tents. The RV sites range from electric and water hookups to full hookups with 50 amp service. Amenities include restrooms, showers, swimming pool, activity room, and a small country store.
1) Our first impression of the campground was not good as it had the appearance of a fun-down and out of date campground. Once we were set up on our site, we learned to appreciation the spacious conditions and wooded atmosphere. It had more the feel of a state park then a commercial RV park, which we tend to favor. Unfortunately, our site was facing a motorhome, which meant we were sharing a picnic table and fire pit. Since neither of us were using them (and they were gone most of the day) it was not really an issue.
2) There were a number of converted cabooses scattered in the campground, which was a unique feature, however, they were all old and in need of repair, so the overall aspect detracted from the rustic feel to the campground. Also their attempts at landscaping was limited to old bathtubs being used as planters.
2) The bathrooms and showers were a big disappointment. The showers were only located up near the pool, which was all the way back to the front of the campground, meaning we would have had to drive to them if we used them. There were bathrooms within easy walking distance of our campsite, but they consisted of a two hole outhouse with flush toilets. No sinks and a heavy musty smell, especially when it rained. They also got stopped up easily if anyone used too much toilet paper.
3) Especially for the price of $45/night we were disappointed in this campground and would not stay here in the future.
