Fort Chiswell RV Park

Location: Fort Chiswell, Virginia

Webpage: RV Park

General Description: Located at the intersection of I-81 and I-77 in southwest Virginia, Fort Chiswell RV Park is conveniently located for easy access to major highways, yet it is far enough from them you cannot see or hear them.  The RV Park is a medium size campground with 80 pull-through sites, most with full hookups.  Other amenities include a swimming pool, bathroom/showers, a very nice laundry facility with lounge, small country store, and propane.  It is not a family campground since there is no playground, but is more a transient campground for travelers on the interstates.

Impressions:

1) There is nothing very fancy about Fort Chiswell RV Park, but since our primary purpose is to use it as a base to explore the surrounding area, it was more than adequate.  The campsites are easy to get in and out of with strong WiFi and cable TV.

Campgrounds

2) Even though the RV Park is at the intersection of two major interstates, it is a rural setting.  On one side of the campgrounds is a hillside with a quiet herd of sheep and the other direction has a herd of quiet cows in a pasture.  Since you are about half a mile from the interstates you cannot see or hear them, but both gas station and a major grocery store are within a mile.

Cows

3) The staff were friendly and helpful, especially since we had to delay our arrival by a day due to problems with our RV.  The bathrooms are very modern and clean with sufficient accommodations for a busy RV Park.  During the day it would be only a quarter full, but would fill up every night during October with all the snowbirds heading to Florida for the winter.
