Camp A While Campground

Location: Hegins, Pennsylvania

Webpage: RV Park

General Description: Located just off of I-81 in the coal country of east-central Pennsylvania, Camp-A-While Campground is conveniently located for exploring the old coal mining towns of central Pennsylvania.  The Campground is divided into two parts, separated by the office and pool facilities.  To the north is the area for transient visitors with nice wooded sites and a mix of pull-through, back-ins, and tent sites.  To the south is the area for seasonal visitors that fix up their sites and leave their RVs all year.  This creates a nice atmosphere for both transient and seasonal campers.  The facilities include the office with a country store, game room, bathroom/showers, laundry room and swimming pool.  Other amenities include propane, stocked pond, playground, and nature trails.

Impressions:

1) Since we were late in making our reservations for Labor Day weekend, all they had available was an open site in with the seasonal campers.  Although we found it a real challenge to back in our RV into the site, it was very nice with good tree cover.  Although quiet during the week, the seasonal campers really showed up for the weekend and it was a busy place.

Campgrounds

2) The staff were extremely nice telling us about some local breweries and other attractions in the area.  After we were unable to back-in to the site they assigned to us, they gave us the choice of two other sites.  When we had even less luck getting into those sites, the owner came out and parked our RV for us in the original site.  Even though he had the same problem I had, he was able to maneuver it in after a couple of tries.

Office

3) The bathroom/showers were very nice, except for the fact they were about 0.25 miles away up a steep hill.  Since few, if any, of the seasonal campers would use their bathrooms this is not generally a problem for them, but we found it to be a challenge.  The restrooms would be much more conveniently located for the transient campers on the other side of the campground.
