Location: Limestone, Tennessee
Webpage: Tennessee State Park
General Description: Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park commemorates the location of the birth of this famous Tennesseean. The area includes a limestone marker and a reproduction of the type of cabin he would have grown up in. The small Visitor Center museum highlights his life and legend.
1) While the cabin was realistic, we were not impressed with the reproduction. I am sure it would have been better if we were able to visit the State Park during the summer when they would have had demonstrations done in and around the cabin.
2) While the museum is small, it was interesting and fun. It included information about Davy Crockett’s life and political degree along with a lot of context important quotation. I found it interesting how much Davy Crockett had to do with his own mythology. He had input into serials about his supposed exploits and a play about his life.
3) The location of the cabin along the river was nice, although I would have liked a hiking trail along the river instead of just in the woods. It was too hot in the afternoon, so we decided not to take any of the trails.
